Never let it be said that Iain Matthews is one to dwell on past successes. With the new edition of MSC, Iain Matthews is getting back a piece of his own past taking it into the here and now. But maybe this time was necessary until Matthews was ready to continue his musical journey with MSC.
He looked for fresh musicians and formed the band completely anew. MATTHEWS SOUTHERN COMFORT 2018 was supposed to sound modern but also build an arc to the band’s past. The concept of the band’s founder Iain Matthews is fully working: In conceiving and assembling this unique group of spirited and likeminded players, Matthews has once again surpassed all expectations. The musicianship and commitment are second to none and the sumptuous, soaring vocal harmonies instantly bring to mind the 60’s version of the band.
The new MSC, a quartet, features an all-Dutch line-up. With renowned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, Bart Jan Baartmans, keyboardist, Bart de Win, fresh from several seasons with the Birds of Chicago and his acoustic duo Tipjar, and rounding out the line-up is the relatively unknown Utrecht songwriter, guitar & mandolin player, Eric De Vries. This spectacular band represents both the past and the present, as Matthews cleverly reinvents some of the classic MSC songs, to accompany the new originals.
Five years after their resurgence and the album “Kinda New“ there is a new studio recording “Like A Radio“. Due for release in February 2018, it features re-imaginings of three classic MSC songs, plus eight stunning new originals. Matthews Southern Comfort is definitely back.
In December, several UK shows are scheduled, one of them already sold out… Tour dates as usual here.
