In the night of July 23 to July 24, 1977, the very first of the famous Rockpalast nights being broadcast throughout Europe (another premiere!) took place at the Essen Grugahalle. On January 21, 2017, it has been 25 years since the great barrelhouse blues pianist and singer Champion Jack Dupree died. Dupree who was born in New Orleans was one of the very first blues musicians to cross the Atlantic in 1959 to escape a life of segregation and racism still prevailing in the United States at that time.
